Late in November of last year, Frank McGettigan, owner of the long established Mc’Gettigan’s Bakery in Letterkenny was considering commercial solar companies and contacted us with a very real problem.
In a period of 14 months his electricity bills rocketed from €2,000 per billing period to over €8,000. Action was required. We met with Frank, reviewed his consumption profile and then proceeded to survey his building.
The best option was to install 170 Solarwatt glass/glass panels to provide a 55kW Solar PV generator on the roof of the building. A 60kW Huawei Sun2000L 60KTL inverter was installed to the main electrical distribution board to deliver the 100% clean and free electricity to the bakery.
Solar Power Generation.
From commissioning on 8th February until of 5th March the system delivered a yield of 1.74mW. Of this, Franks bakery consumed nearly all of the power, 94.81% to be exact.
On 8th February we commissioned the system. The results were spectacular. February is a poor month for solar irradiance and Donegal winter weather is not particularly conducive either, however the superior performance of the Solarwatt panels started delivering immediately.
Commercial Solar Panels Efficiency
In the same period the entire consumption for the bakery was 2.39mW which means the bakery is 60.12% self sufficient even in the dark winter and early spring days. Only 952kW of the 2.39mW consumption the bakery needed came from the grid, with the rest being completely free, completely clean power coming from the building’s roof.
